Plain-language summary

We collect only information needed to respond to enquiries, operate this website, provide agreed services and run authorised TBG SEO Engine connections. We do not sell personal information or Google user data.

1. Responsible party and scope

This Privacy Policy applies to www.buildguy.co.za, its enquiry and planning forms, and the TBG SEO Engine application. The responsible party is The Construction Man t/a The Build Guy, Company Registration No. 2024/530496/07, Gauteng, South Africa (“The Build Guy”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

We process personal information in accordance with applicable South African law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”), and apply the additional Google API disclosures below when TBG SEO Engine connects to Google services.

2. Information we collect

Website and project enquiries

When you contact us or submit a planner, we may collect your name, telephone number, email address, property area, project type, budget range, preferred timing, property details, photos or plans you choose to send, and the content of your message.

Technical and usage information

Our website and hosting systems may process IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page, approximate region, cookie identifiers, timestamps, security logs and campaign parameters. This information supports security, performance measurement and website improvement.

Business and service records

If you become a client, supplier, subcontractor or member, we may process contact, contractual, project, invoicing, payment and correspondence records needed to perform and administer the relationship.

3. Google user data used by TBG SEO Engine

TBG SEO Engine connects to Google only after an authorised administrator starts the OAuth consent process and approves the permissions shown by Google. Google handles the sign-in. We do not receive or store the user’s Google password.

Data category
Access and use
Authorisation data
OAuth access and refresh tokens, approved scopes, connection status and token timing are used to maintain the authorised connection and request new access tokens when permitted.
Search Console data
Using the read-only webmasters.readonly scope, the app can list verified properties and read selected-property search performance data such as queries, pages, dates, clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position. It may also read sitemap and URL Inspection information including index coverage, crawl state and canonical URLs. It cannot add or delete properties or submit or remove pages.
Business Profile data
Using the business.manage scope, business account and location identifiers, location titles and publishing responses are accessed to list managed locations, select the correct location, submit authorised Local Post content and show publishing status.
Content supplied for publishing
Approved article titles, summaries, links and media are sent to Google only when an authorised publishing action is performed.

The app may technically receive information available under an approved Google scope, but it is designed to use only the data needed for the connected feature. TBG SEO Engine handles information received through Google APIs in accordance with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Google user data is not:
  • sold, rented or exchanged;
  • used for targeted advertising, credit decisions or unrelated marketing;
  • used to train general-purpose artificial intelligence or machine-learning models; or
  • read by a person except where necessary for security, troubleshooting, compliance or support, and only with appropriate authorisation.

4. How we use information

We use information to respond to enquiries; assess, quote, schedule and deliver requested construction or maintenance services; communicate about projects; keep contractual and financial records; protect the website; comply with legal duties; analyse website performance; and operate the specific TBG SEO Engine features authorised by the connected account.

Depending on the circumstances, processing is based on consent, steps requested before entering a contract, performance of a contract, legal obligations, or our legitimate interests in operating and securing the business without overriding a person’s rights.

5. Storage, security and retention

Information may be stored in our access-controlled WordPress database, email systems, business records and hosting backups. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including role-based access, password protection, software updates, transport encryption where supported, backups and restricted administrator access.

Website enquiries and business records are retained for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, an active relationship, dispute handling, security, accounting or legal requirements. TBG SEO Engine stores Google authorisation tokens, the selected Search Console property, the selected Business Profile location and short-lived cached API results in WordPress. Disconnecting the relevant Google feature clears its stored tokens, selected property or location and active cache. Residual copies may remain temporarily in secured backups until the normal backup cycle expires.

No internet system is risk-free. If a breach affecting personal information creates a legal notification duty, we will follow the applicable notification process.

6. When information may be shared

We may share only what is reasonably necessary with service providers that support website hosting, email, analytics, security, accounting, project delivery or authorised publishing; with Google when the connected feature sends or receives data; with professional advisers; or with authorities where required by law.

Service providers act under their own terms or appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations. We do not sell personal information or Google user data. Where information is processed outside South Africa, we take reasonable steps to use providers and safeguards appropriate to the information and service.

7. Cookies and analytics

The website may use essential cookies for security and functionality and analytics technologies to understand aggregate usage and campaign performance. Analytics settings are configured to reduce collection of email addresses. Campaign query parameters may be retained so we can measure which marketing source led to a visit.

You can restrict non-essential cookies through your browser or any consent controls shown on the website. Blocking some cookies may affect functionality.

8. Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether we hold your personal information; request access, correction or deletion; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; or complain about our handling of your information. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where the law or a legitimate contractual requirement permits or requires it.

You may also lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator. Current regulator contact details are available at inforegulator.org.za.

9. Revoke Google access or request deletion

An authorised administrator can disconnect Google inside TBG SEO Engine and can revoke the app’s access from the Google Account’s third-party connections page. Revocation prevents future API access but does not automatically remove records that must be retained for security, publishing history or legal compliance.

To request access, correction or deletion of personal information or Google user data held by us, email info@buildguy.co.za with the subject “Privacy or data request”. Describe the account or enquiry involved and the action requested. We will verify the request and respond within a reasonable period required by applicable law.

10. Children, policy changes and contact

Our website, construction services and TBG SEO Engine are not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly request Google authorisation from children.

We may update this policy when our services, legal duties or connected platforms change. The current version and effective date will remain published at this URL.
